Protective sealing for patios and driveways.

Help to protect your driveway or patio!

Here at Drivetime paving we want your driveway or patio to last forever.
For this we offer a protective sealing service. This sealant provides a wet look as well as a protective layer that prevents your driveway or patio from getting dirty and going green and slippy. The sealant provides a grippy surface making it safer underfoot.
This service can be provided for older patios and driveways too so call us today and see how we can help revitalise your patio or driveway.

What does it involve?
Before we start any work, we offer you a free no obligation quote and expert advice. We will discuss all available options with that to meet your needs and to suit your budget. No job is too big or too small.
If you decide to go ahead then every job is planned and undertaken with the highest quality and professionalism.
How does it work?
Sealing Preparation.

If its a new patio or block paved driveway, then we need to wait 2-3 weeks before sealing to allow for natural weather to wash off any dust and let the efflorescence out. (This is the migration of salt to the surface of a porous material and form a coating).

The next step is to make sure the area is clean. This can be done by giving it a brush over and a hose down to remove any dirt and  mud.

Application of Sealant.

Once this area is completely dry then the first coat of sealant/protector can be rolled on covering the whole area. Once dry (up to 6 hours dependent on weather) then the second coat can be applied.
When applying the sealant it needs to be applied in straight lines with pressure to the roller to ensure a good coat.
This procedure will benefit the slabs or blocks from getting dirty again and embedding into the slab. This will make it easier to maintain as the sealant protects the slabs or blocks.
It also makes it non slip and prevents any green moss from retuning.

Older patio or driveway sealing.

For and older patio or driveway the procedure is slightly different. For this we will provide a detailed job outline including , preparation, cleaning, application and cost which is dependent on size of patio.
the procedure for an old patio would be as follows (although this would be detailed on your individual job outline).
  • Power wash the area until clean
  • Remove old pointing if crumbled or deteriorated.
  • Leave to dry
  • Repoint the patio where needed. (repointing is done the old fashioned way with a strong mix of 2 building sand, 1 sharp sand and 1 cement. This is compacted rather than just brushed in and then finished off with a piece of hose for a nice smooth finish.
  • Once the pointing has set, then the first coat of sealant can be applied with a roller brush.
  • Again as before once this has dried completely then a second coat can be applied.
