Homeowners might have a beautifully laid patio, but if they suffer from unsightly weeds poking up between the slabs, it lets their whole driveway or back garden down.

So, here are some tips on how to remove these weeds and keep the problem at bay.

Use a weeding tool

If you cannot pull out the weeds by hand, the best way to maintain a clear patio is to use a weeding tool, such as a brush, knife or hoe.

These can be run between the slabs, pulling up stubborn weeds, as well as irritating moss that often appears in the cracks.

This may be laborious but it is effective at giving you the desirable clean-looking patio.

Use boiling water

It sounds too easy, but boiling water is great at killing moss and algae. Make sure the entire weed is saturated in the boiling water, as well as the soil surrounding it.

Once they have died, remove them from the ground. If the plant has particularly long roots, another dose of boiling water might be needed.

Natural remedies

There are all sorts of weed killers on the market, but lots of people do not want to use the harsh chemicals in their garden. Instead, you could try a natural alternative, such as sprinkling bicarbonate of soda, a vinegar solution, or saltwater over the weeds.

Reseal patio

Once the plants have been removed, the best way to keep the floor weed-free is opt for patio sealing to fill the gaps between the paving slabs.

This will prevent any weeds from being able to grow, meaning you do not have to go through the arduous process of weeding your patio every couple of weeks.
