What Is Indian Stone & Why Is It Ideal For Bright Patios?

There are a lot of different natural paving options available for patios and driveways, but a very popular alternative in recent years has been Indian stone.

Indian stone, specifically
sandstone, has been used for decades for both construction and decorative purposes, aided partly by the fact that it can be easily quarried and shaped, and partly by the sheer variety of colours and textures on offer.

From the highly popular likes of Raj Green and Kandra Grey to the vibrant panoply of colours found in Raveena stone, Indian stone provides considerable scope to create a lively finish that can help to make your house and garden feel like yours.

One big advantage of Indian stone is that it is particularly durable and relatively water-resistant compared to other popular materials such as limestone.

Whilst sealing is still highly recommended for incredible long-term results, one of the best aspects of Indian stone is how its colours become much deeper, more pronounced and more beautiful when the stone is wet.

Part of the reason why it gained popularity as a patio material is precisely this wet-look effect, which also highlights the particular veins and rivulets that give natural stone its unique appeal.

As well as this, the vibrancy of Indian stone is available at a more affordable price than Yorkstone, a similarly prestigious stone that has gotten prohibitively expensive due to the depletion of traditional quarries.

Raj Green, in particular, had a very similar appearance to Yorkstone but for a fraction of the price and with significantly more versatility. The only reason to choose Yorkstone over Indian stone is tradition.

The low-maintenance nature of Indian stone is of particular note, especially given the porous nature of sandstone. Once it is laid and sealed, very little needs to be done to keep it looking special.
