Why Summer Is The Best Time To Lay A Driveway

The summer so far may not have been very warm or dry, but if you are planning to get a block paving driveway installed, this is still the best time of year to do it.

Of course, it isn’t a job for a day when it pours with rain, but it is still less one for when any rain that does fall won’t evaporate quickly because there isn’t any hot sun on it.

Hopefully, soon the weather will get drier and that provides a chance to enjoy optimal conditions for laying a block driveway - or indeed any other kind of surface. This enables the cement work to dry.

The first thing needed is for your driveway to be level and firm with good drainage, so while we may do the work in good weather, we will check it drains well first, or else some extra work may be needed like French drains along the side of the surface.

A new driveway built from scratch will be most likely to need this when a new home is being but for example, but this may also benefit from being checked when a driveway is relaid, especially if the previous driveway installation job was a poor one or if there have been issues with the surface in the meantime.

Similar principles will apply to asphalt driveways. Once again, the key is to allow the material laid down to dry, so you don’t want this happening in a rain storm.

However, the most important reason for this is that asphalt only sets in optimal condition when the temperature is above 50 degrees F (10 degrees C). That means it should at least be done in the spring, though summer is better.

For these reasons, now is the time to plan for your new driveway to be laid, with optimal laying conditions helping ensure it looks great and remains in great condition for many years to come.
