Do You Know These Unusual UK Parking Laws?

You might be aware of the most common parking misdemeanors, like stopping on double yellow lines or blocking driveways, but did you know that there are some other parking offences that could land you with a hefty fine and even points on your licence?
The Liverpool Echo
recently picked out some of the most unusual parking laws in the UK, noting that many drivers may be unaware that they’re breaking rules.
For example, if you use wheelie bins or any other objects to save a parking space on your street you could be fined for causing a dangerous obstruction in the road.
Parking on the pavement is a common sight in many small roads, but be careful about this. In London, it’s been illegal to do so since 1970. In the rest of the country, you could get a ticket if parking on the pavement causes an obstruction.
We all know that parallel parking can be a challenge, but it pays to make sure you get it right and tuck your car in close to the kerb. If your vehicle is more than 50cm from the kerb, you could receive an on-the-spot fine.
You also need to make sure that you park your vehicle at least 10m from any junction. This is for road safety and parking closer could see you receive a ticket.
It’s also important to remember that cycle lanes that are marked on the carriageway count as lanes of traffic. That means blocking them is illegal. With so many parking rules to bear in mind, it’s probably best to get your new gravel driveways in Shrewsbury
sorted so you always have off-street parking available and avoid all these potential issues.
But it’s not only on the roads where drivers are making parking errors. Research from Confused.com recently revealed that 26 per cent of parent and child parking spaces in the UK are being misused.
