Would You Rent Your Driveway For EV Charging?

Depending on where you live, having off-road parking in the form of a driveway might be something of a luxury. But if you’re lucky enough to have a driveway, have you considered that you could make money by renting the space when you’re not using it?
If you live near a train station or popular commuter travel hub this could be ideal - they can use your space while you’re at work, and you get some extra cash for giving up your spot.
However, a recent article for Transport Xtra
suggested that homeowners renting out their driveways to allow people with electric vehicles (EV) to charge up could be a good way of boosting the EV charging network in the future.
The news provider revealed that some people are already doing this, and it could be worth considering if you don’t use your driveway all day.
This Is Money
recently noted that the Department and Office for Low Emission Vehicles has called for all new rapid EV charging points that are installed by 2020 to allow debit and credit card payments.
What’s more, Chris Grayling, transport secretary, has also confirmed that there will be a public consultation about changing building regulations in England to require all new-build properties to have an electric charging point installed.
If you’re thinking of having new gravel driveways in Shrewsbury
you may want to look at whether it’s worth also installing an EV charger at the same time. It will make it easier for you to get an EV if you want one, and it could give you an opportunity to make some extra cash from your driveway by renting it to those who need to charge their cars.
